This connected watch could succeed in correcting the big flaw of Wear OS

In order to compensate for the mediocre autonomy of Wear OS watches, Mobvoi would have chosen to integrate a large battery into its TicWatch Pro 5, the announcement of which is expected in the coming weeks.

After six months of waiting, Moboi’s first watch under Wear OS 3 could well arrive very soon. As reported by the site DroidLife, the TicWatch Pro 5 would indeed have been listed by the FCC, the American authority in charge of regulating communications. What to learn in passing new information about it.

As the specialized site indicates, the FCC, which will certify certain electronic devices sold across the Atlantic, has indeed published a page concerning a Mobvoi product. If the name of TicWatch Pro 5 does not appear on the site of the American authority, all the clues suggest that it is indeed this connected watch. The term “smart watchis indeed mentioned there, as is the model number WH12088. As a reminder, the TicWatch Pro 3, launched in 2020, benefited from the model number WH12018. For its part, the TicWatch E3, dating from 2021, was entitled to the model number WH12068.

A larger battery than that of the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro

The FCC documentation also points out a few features of the smartwatch. We learn that it will benefit from Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC and a GPS chip. The watch will also have dimensions of 50.1 mm in width – crown included – 47.8 mm in length – without the horns – and 12.4 mm in thickness. This thickness could be explained by the battery integrated by Mobvoi, of 611 mAh. This is a significant capacity for a connected watch, which can be compared to the 294 mAh of the Google Pixel Watch, the 284 or 410 mAh (depending on the format) of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 or the 590 mAh of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro, three watches equipped with the same Wear OS 3 system. This is enough to predict a finally correct autonomy for a watch equipped with the Google operating system, potentially reaching two days of use.

As a reminder, the TicWatch Pro 5 should also be the first connected watch on the market to embed Qualcomm’s Snapdragon W5+ chip, a chip that relies not only on performance, but above all on energy efficiency thanks to 4 nm engraving. Originally scheduled for Fall 2022, the watch has been pushed back to an unknown date. Nevertheless, if Mobvoi is now at the FCC certification stage, it does seem that the TicWatch Pro 5 will be announced in the coming weeks with a commercialization before the end of spring at the latest.
