In their quest for the perfect first name, this couple opted for an absolutely unique approach. Helped by their dog, they found the name that will accompany their baby all his life!
A symbolic choice that delicate: that of the first name. While this may be obvious, it can turn into a real headache for some parents. Make lists, search on our first names guide, give the first names of a grandfather or rather of his star or even a first name in your favorite saga, all inspirations are allowed. Yet Oliver and Courtney Brooks, residents of Kolkstone in the UK, opted for a truly atypical approach by seeking the advice of their dog Gus!
For them, there is no need to hesitate between vintage first names or rare first names. Surprisingly, their approach led to enlightening results, as related by their testimony shared with SWNS, a British media. Courtney Brooks shared the story of their struggles to find the perfect name for their future son. Initially fond of the first name Jaxonwhen their family suggested the name Casey, they immediately liked it too. Then they say to be ” went to a wedding and [avoir] asked people the names of their sons, and one of them said brody”. Again they have it “simply loved it” concedes Courtney. These three first names therefore remained on their list, without any choice being possible.

The family already had a special member: Gus, a spaniel-terrier mix 2 years old. It is therefore quite natural that the couple turned to him in order to decide between the 3 first names that lived in their hearts. This idea therefore took shape by simply going … at the park. Where their little boy will certainly spend a lot of time in the next few years. They left with three bullets, each bearing a first name. Oliver and Courtney then threw them to see which ball would be recovered by Gus. Their four-legged companion immediately rushed towards the ball bearing the name Brody!
With each throw, the same result. Gus seems so really love the name Brody. Today Courtney seems happy to say “It was our favorite anyway“. So, from birth, in July 2023, the new parents are eager to proceed with the meeting between Gus and Brody. They explain that Gus was very curious, almost shy but excited, like a big brother. Courtney then said, “When another [enfant] will arrive, he will have to choose the first name“! A beautiful story that repeats itself!
