This cult ’80s sci-fi flick will get a new sequel starring Dahmer

American Horror Story and Dahmer star Evan Peters joins Jared Leto in the cast of Joachim Rønning’s Tron 3.

We had no news of the sequel project of the Tron saga since 2020 and yet Tron: Ares is still on track!

Disney has just announced that Evan Peters, star of the American Horror Story and Dahmer series, has joined Jared Leto in the cast of Joachim Rønning’s feature film (Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge).

If we already know that Jared Leto will play Ares, the manifestation of the Tron program, we still do not know precisely the role of Evan Peters. However, two key roles are currently being cast: that of a soldier in the virtual world and that of a player in the human sphere. Peters should therefore play one of these two characters.

Evan Peters has already distinguished himself in the cinema by playing the superhero Quicksilver in X-Men: Dark Phoenix and Deadpool 2.

Released in 1982, the first Tron starred Jeff Bridges as video game creator Kevin Flynn. The latter found himself deformed inside his video game, forced to participate in gladiator games from which he could only escape with the help of a heroic security program.

It is one of the first films to use CGI effects. If the feature film was not a commercial success (it brought in $50 million in theaters for a budget of $17 million), it acquired the status of cult film thanks to its exploitation on VHS.

29 years later came Tron, The Legacy of Joseph Kosinski (Mr Top Gun 2), in which Jeff Bridges reprized his role opposite Garrett Hedlund, who played his son, Sam Flynn.

Seeking to unravel the mystery of his father’s disappearance, he finds himself drawn into the same world of fearsome programs and deadly games where his father has lived for 25 years.

Together with Kevin’s faithful confidante, father and son embark on a journey where death awaits, through a visually stunning cyber universe that has become more technologically advanced and more dangerous than ever…

With a budget of $170 million, the film only grossed $400 million internationally.

In project since 2015, the third opus seems to finally be moving forward since the filming of tron 3 should take place in Vancouver next August on condition that the SAG (Screen Actors Guild) does not go on strike… Which could delay the film produced by Disney.
