A few years ago during the holidays, I remember introducing an electric screwdriver that was very popular with readers. I know from the comments and emails that many of you have purchased one and been impressed with the tool, and I’ve been asked other questions about it as well.

I only recommend products that I have tested and believe do the job in terms of performance, reliability and cost. And here is another example, the HOTO electric and cordless screwdriver!

Technical characteristics of the HOTO electric screwdriver

  • The rotary knob allows you to adjust the tightening torque of the screwdriver to three different levels.
  • Fast training thanks to a 220 rpm motor
  • A huge 1500mAh capacity battery provides super long endurance and, when fully charged, can drive over 1,000 screws before needing to be recharged.
  • The screwdriver is equipped with a circular LED light that produces no shadow so you can see what you are doing.
  • The HOTO kit contains a dozen 5 cm long steel bits up to 60HRC (very high Rockwell hardness index).
  • The screwdriver and bits are stored in an anodized aluminum alloy box with a soft-touch rubber cap.
  • The USB-C charging interface means you don’t need a separate charger.

At one end of this superb screwdriver is a standard 1/4 inch socket onto which the various bits mount. A rotary knob that turns the screwdriver off and on, as well as switching between three torque levels. There’s also a circular LED light that doesn’t cast a shadow, so you can see what you’re doing, so I don’t have to struggle with a flashlight when working in a dark corner.

At the other end of the screwdriver, there is a USB-C port for recharging the device: a good point, because it avoids having to resort to a proprietary charger (I no longer need one in my life! ).

In the middle of the tool are the controls, very simple. There is a button for tightening a screw and a button for unscrewing a screw.

The screwdriver and bits are stored in an anodized aluminum alloy storage box, which has a soft rubber handle. If you want more than a dozen bits, there is a version of the HOTO with 25 bits.

The three torque settings range from powerful enough to assemble a PC case or flat piece of furniture (where you need fairly low power) to powerful enough to install a fence or screw in floorboards.

What this screwdriver does not provide is very gentle adjustment for items such as electronic gadgets, for which this screwdriver might be too powerful. This would have been a very useful function for this HOTO screwdriver.

Aside from the lack of a super-soft setting, the HOTO screwdriver is a great choice. Mine has already been used for many months and it is still going strong. Currently, at the time of writing this review, it is on sale online for €60.
