Samuel L. Jackson is one of Marvel’s undisputed stars and one of the most important figures in its cinematic universe. As founder of the Avengers, Nicholas “Nick” Joseph Fury has appeared in numerous Marvel adventures since Iron Man in 2008, the very first MCU film.
Samuel L. Jacksonwho now got his solo series with Secret Invasion also played a very important role in the second Captain America film but that doesn’t matter, his influence on the storyline remained limited.
In Captain America: The Winter Soldier, there is a scene in which a group of masked men attempt to assassinate Nick Fury. This scene is followed by a high-speed chase – which would have been completely different if Marvel boss Kevin Feige hadn’t decisively rejected one of Marvel’s wishes. Samuel L. Jackson…
Indeed, the latter did not want a simple car chase and insisted that the cars could fly – which would not have made much sense within the MCU. “There are no flying cars in the Marvel Universe”, replied Kevin Feige, thus putting an end to the idea of the actor. This anecdote was revealed in the book MCU: The Reign Of Marvel Studios from authors Joanna Robinson, Dave Gonzales and Gavin Edwards (via FandomWire).
However, according to the book, the comics giant previously commissioned the company Pre-Viz, which works closely with Marvel, to visualize the scene as desired. Samuel L. Jackson – it is indeed possible, in a major production, to visually test such concepts to see if they work before actually being put into practice at great expense. However, in the case of the flying car chase scene, the answer was clearly “no” and the Pulp Fiction star – known for once losing the Avengers script which was later posted online… – finally had to settle for simple cars on four wheels…
