this driver gives an extremely positive assessment of his electric car

Buying an electric car from an almost unknown manufacturer can be worrying, especially when it comes from China given the preconceptions that exist. Good news, however: the user of an MG5 has just passed 160,000 km after only two years of driving… and it obviously went well!

Chinese manufacturers have long had an image of (very) poor quality, sometimes wrongly, often rightly. However, recent years have witnessed phenomenal progress by these brands: their safety levels are becoming excellent, new technologies are announced almost every day, in short, enough to twist the clichés a little more each time.

But once on the road, how do they manage? An English professional has just covered 160,000 km in just two years aboard an MG5, and gives us a video tour of the owner. With lots of good surprises in store.

A battery that holds up remarkably well

This is obviously the crucial point in the aging of an electric car: how will the condition of the battery evolve? Tesla has already published very reassuring reports, with a loss limited to 12% of capacity after 320,000 kilometers, and our owner of the MG electric station wagon confirms these statements.

With a 6% drop in the capacity of its traction battery after 120,000 km, we can actually say that it is right on average. Its MG5 being a pre-restyling model, it therefore has a 52.5 kWh battery. From there, the owner estimates having lost only 22 km of autonomy compared to the first day.

One question remains: how did he recharge it? Because, as we have seen, overusing fast charging can quickly reduce the health of the battery, and the bill can be steep. Unfortunately, the person concerned does not give any details on this subject.

(Almost) like new!

Our English doesn’t stop there, and takes the opportunity to show us the rest of his MG5. There too, RAS. What you need to know is that he uses it as a support car: from there, we understand that the MG must be pretty badly mistreated.

Pleasant surprise: apart from a few insignificant scratches on the plastics in the trunk (due to loading and unloading tools), the interior is in remarkable condition. Let us point out, however, that if the seats are intact, it is probably because they were immediately covered by a cover.

As for the mechanical condition, there too, nothing to report. No leaks, no breakdowns, no breakages: a real nice surprise, when the Tesla Model 3, for example, is known for not being the most reliable. Only the tires were changed twice, but this is completely normal given the mileage. As for the brake pads, they are almost new. We can thank regenerative braking, which greatly saves the braking system on all electric cars.

Good news, therefore, for this car priced at only 23,490 euros in France, and even at 99 euros per month during a promotion. But quickly, on December 15, she will no longer be entitled to her ecological bonus.
