This evening on TV: more than 14 million French people laughed at this comedy… and you?

Every day, AlloCiné recommends a film to (re)watch on TV. Tonight: our favorite Gallic diehards in Egypt.

Following the critical and commercial success of the film Didier, which earned Alain Chabat the César for Best First Film in 1998, producer Claude Berri encouraged him to shoot a second feature film.

Having produced Asterix and Obelix against Caesar, seen in theaters by 9 million spectators when it was released in 1999, and still owning the rights to the comic strip by Uderzo and Goscinny, he steered him towards the album Asterix and Cleopatra which he considers particularly cinematic.

With a budget of more than 50 million euros, Alain Chabat brings together a high-flying cast (Gérard Depardieu, Christian Clavier, Monica Bellucci, Jamel Debbouze, Gérard Darmon, Edouard Baer, Chantal Lauby, etc.) within pharaonic settings. .

Thanks to a fair balance between fidelity to the original comic strip (connoisseurs will have fun identifying the boxes taken up in detail) and his own humor, he signs one of the peaks of French comedy of the 2000s.

Accumulating a total of 14,559,509 entries to be exact, Asterix and Obelix: Mission Cleopatra ranks second in the ranking of the greatest French successes of all time (it will be overtaken later by Intouchables and Bienvenue chez les Ch’tis).

Among the many adaptations of the adventures of Asterix – animated films and live action versions combined -, Asterix and Obelix: Mission Cleopatra tops the ranking of spectator ratings on AlloCiné with an average of 4.1 out of 5.

Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Empire, directed by Guillaume Canet, will he beat these records? Answer this Wednesday.
