This evening on TV: the film that renewed action cinema

Every day, AlloCiné recommends a film to (re)watch on TV. Tonight: the third part of a beloved saga, launched in a hazardous way.

In 2014, John Wick created a surprise: the unexpected film had then generated more than 86 million dollars in revenue worldwide when it had only cost 30. The legend was then launched.

After a second installment that brought in more than $171 million, it’s John Wick Parabellum’s turn to take over in 2019. Once born, the opus exceeded all expectations, grossing more than 327 million at the worldwide box office and taking only 10 days to become the highest-grossing film in the franchise.

John Wick is now everywhere: in addition to its Chapter 4, released this Wednesday, March 22 on the screens, a limited prequel series, The Continental, is in development and a female spin-off, Ballerina, is also preparing.

In Chapter 3, John Wick is on the loose after breaking a fundamental rule: he killed a “fellow” inside the Continental Hotel itself. Excommunicated, a bounty is put on his head – 14 million please.

It is alone that he must then try to leave Manhattan, not without difficulty, to escape extreme reprisals: hot on his heels, the most dangerous killers in the world are ready to make him pay for this affront. Kung-fu, wushu and Indonesian silat: all means are good to get rid of your many enemies, one by one.

Upon its release, the film received great reviews but since its debut, the franchise has shined in one particular way: in addition to its visual style and the performance of a perfect Keanu Reeves, it is its thorough and detailed action sequences. and his Dantesque fight scenes that made him famous.

These magnificent sequences, of a realism such as one would believe, we owe them to the talented (and more than qualified) Chad Stahelski, passed from outstanding stuntman (everything is explained) to expert director, for the greatest pleasure of the fans who take full eyes.

However, with John Wick Parabellum, Chad Stahelski and his team go further. Even more authentic and impressive action scenes, real acrobatics, fights filmed without editing, wide shots that show everything that is happening to the public down to the last detail: everything here is done to give the impression of “real”.

Finally, if most of the fights of the old shutters opposed essentially two people, in this third opus it is the group confrontations which are essential, highlighting the beauty of the choreographies.

Epic and exhilarating, John Wick Parabellum is a film that is both violent and full of humanity, with crazy duality and incredible and unequaled physical prowess, presenting a charismatic Keanu Reeves, ultra-trained, certainly gifted, who dares everything… with success!
