This evening on TV: the proof that The Unknown are eternal

Every day, AlloCiné recommends a film to (re)watch on TV. Tonight: the winning return of the Unknowns to the cinema.

In 1995, the film The Three Brothers, carried by Les Inconnus, the most fashionable comic trio of the time, accumulated 6.8 million admissions and won the César for Best First Film. Thereafter, the members of the group navigate between separation (in particular because of contractual problems with their ex-manager Paul Lederman) and reformation. After the release of Les Rois Mages in 2001, the three friends lead their careers on their own.

It was in 2011 that they met again when Pascal Légitimus invited Didier Bourdon and Bernard Campan on stage during a performance of his show “Plus si affinités”. Driven by the unconditional love of their audience, they then decided to come together to write a sequel to their first film. Entitled, The Three Brothers, the return, it was born in 2014.

In just five days of theatrical release, the comedy attracted nearly a million viewers. In the final, he collects more than 2 million. A public success which contrasts radically with the criticism, very severe with regard to the film. “Elephantine gags“, “lazy remake”, “opportunistic cash machine“, “paltry entertainment“; here is an overview of what the French press thought about it…

Annoyed by so many negative reactions, Pascal Légitimus announces on social networks that this is their last production under the name Les Inconnus. Since then, water has flowed under the bridges. Indeed, Didier Bourdon teased their return to the big screen at BFM TV: “There is an idea, a third part of Three Brothers. It would be the last part, it would be The Three Grandfathers. We would cross out “brothers” and we would put “grandfathers”. The film might be directed by Xavier Durringer [réalisateur de L’Homme parfait]“, he confided. In the meantime, the trio, who plan to go back on stage together, have another cinematographic project on fire under the direction of Riad Sattouf.

Les Trois frères, the return of and with Didier Bourdon, Bernard Campan, Pascal Légitimus…
