This evening on TV: the sequel to one of the greatest sagas in the history of cinema

Every day, AlloCiné recommends a film to (re)watch on TV. Tonight: Chris Pratt as raptor trainer in the first installment of the new “Jurassic Park” trilogy.

As early as 2002, Steven Spielberg planned to produce a fourth installment of his successful Jurassic Park saga. But the consecutive deaths of Stan Winston, head of special effects, and Michael Crichton, author of the original novels, put the project on hold. This is finally resumed in 2013, when Universal Pictures announces the launch of a reboot. A direct sequel to the first Jurassic Park, Jurassic World was born in 2015.

Director Colin Trevorrow thus opens the doors to the fully operational amusement park, attracting thousands of visitors, just as Dr. Hammond dreamed. But to succeed in continuing to captivate their attention, the scientists of InGen artificially designed a species of dinosaur with formidable ferocity, the Indominus Rex, which wasted no time in escaping from its enclosure…

Between respect and nostalgia for the original franchise and more modern action scenes (for the first time, the dinosaurs are recreated by computer), Jurassic World ticks the boxes of a successful blockbuster, while delivering different levels of reading, that it is a reflection on the film industry or on the malaise of our society increasingly disconnected from the natural world.

Exceeding the $1 billion mark in worldwide revenue (1.671 exactly) when it was released in theaters, Jurassic World reached third place in the ranking of the world’s biggest box office hits in 2015 (today, it is positioned at seventh square). This commercial triumph relaunched the construction of new films in the franchise: Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom in 2018, then Jurassic World: The World After in 2022.
