This evening on TV: you will love to hate Benoît Poelvoorde

Every day, AlloCiné recommends a film to (re)watch on TV. Tonight: Benoît Poelvoorde as hiking leader.

In 1996, director Philippe Harel approached Benoît Poelvoorde to play in his film Les Randonneurs. He offers her the role of Eric, a mountain guide who welcomes four Parisians on the magnificent paths of the GR 20 in Corsica.

During this period, the Belgian actor was not very active in the cinema (even if his performance in the chilling C’est arrive près de chez vous made an impression in 1992) and performed on stage in his show “Model Opposite ” (which the director likes a lot). Flattered to be chosen, he is also anxious at the idea of rubbing shoulders, for the first time, with a collective game. During the filming, the actor also struggles to play in a more sober way than in the theater and to deal with the type of humor of the director.

Despite these difficulties (which however did not affect his relations with Philippe Harel or with the rest of the cast), Benoît Poelvoorde excels as a proud, authoritarian and cowardly boy scout. Alongside a generation of actors who were still in their infancy – Karin Viard, Vincent Elbaz, Géraldine Pailhas… -, his performance is memorable and reveals him to the general public.

Special Jury Prize at the Alpe d’Huez International Comedy Film Festival, Les Randonneurs seduced the public, attracting 1.4 million French people to theaters.
