(Re)discover “Malcolm”, a timeless family series from the early 2000s that brought happiness to several generations of viewers.
Third son in a family of four children, Malcolm is a special boy. Endowed with an extraordinary intelligence and a great alertness, he excels in almost all areas: enough to earn him a place in a specialized class at his school, nicknamed “the heads of light bulbs”.
But his genius for studies is matched only by his ingenuity in developing the most spectacular nonsense. Alongside his big brother Reese, the brainless college bully, and his adorable little brother Dewey, he gives a lot of trouble to his father Hal and his mother Lois.
A priori, by reading the pitch located above without having ever discovered a single episode of Malcolm, you could tell yourself that it is quite simply an American family comedy like there are hundreds of them, and that this series created by Linwood Boomer (interpreter of Adam in The Little House on the prairie, for the fans) is not very original.
Might as well be honest right now, the concept of Malcolm could not be more classic, and indeed, many other shows already offer their viewers the opportunity to explore the daily life of an average family. However, as you can see if you watch even the first episode of season 1, this series outclasses almost all of its competitors.

On the one hand thanks to its perfect form, the effectiveness of its narration and its gags, constantly energized by brilliant staging finds (the famous breaking of the fourth wall between Malcolm and his audience, for example).
On the other hand thanks to his soul, his deep sincerity and the accuracy of his heroes.
If some do not hesitate to say that Malcolm is “a bit like The Simpsons in live-action”, it is most likely thanks to its protagonists. Indeed, even if it bears the name of the little gifted child whose adventures it explores, Linwood Boomer’s series is not limited to him and actually offers us a vast gallery of characters, each one more brilliant than the other.

Between the incredible tantrums of Lois, the dirty tricks of Grandma Ida, the misadventures of big brother Francis at military school and then in Alaska, the clumsiness of Craig Feldspar and of course the lightnings of Hal, masterfully interpreted by a Bryan Cranston far from Breaking Bad, Malcolm is a series that will make you laugh, and that will do you good!
