In Aubignan, in the Vaucluse, a family tries at all costs to have their 8-year-old child recognized as transident at school. The Vaucluse academic inspectorate is awaiting the opinion of several specialists before making a decision.

“Before I was a boy, they knew me by my other name. I told them my name was Lilie ”, tells the child to France Bleu. This incident happened on the first day of school when his teacher called him by his official first name, Baptiste.

Today this child feels like a girl and says he was born in the wrong body. In order for him to thrive, this Aubignan family has been struggling to gain recognition for their new gender identity for several months.

"To protect the best interests of the child, it is essential to have the certainty, or at least the quasi-certainty that it is a deep will of the child"

A desire that the Vaucluse academic inspectorate refuses to apply, because of the child's age and because his marital status has not yet changed. "The steps are underway", specifies Chrystelle, the mother, who specifies that the process will be long and that while waiting for her child is suffering.

Seven months ago, the family joined forces with an association of trans people, Transat, represented by Lise Segura. "I was 6 years old when I began to understand that I was trans. I am 55 years old, 50 years ago we didn't talk about it. I was left with my discomfort", she confides. For the moment, the request of this family is being studied by the inspector of the Académie de Vaucluse with the help of several specialists. "To preserve the best interests of the child, it is essential to have the certainty, or at least the quasi-certainty that it is a deep will of the child", specifies Christian Patoz, inspector of the Vaucluse academy.

However, this family does not give up hope. They are expecting a return from the registrar by the end of September.
