This famous video game that we all played as teenagers will be adapted for the cinema by Margot Robbie

After Barbie, Margot Robbie is launching a new adaptation. The Hollywood star, through his production company LuckyChap, will produce a film based on The Sims, a very famous video game from the 2000s and 2010s.

Margot Robbie has been doing adaptations lately. Only a few months after the immense international success of Barbie, the Australian actress decided to continue its momentum and will produce a film on The Sims. This is the first time that the famous life simulation video game franchise will move from the computer, or games console, to the big screen.

For the moment, we don’t know much about what the script will cover, nor if the 33-year-old actress will have a major role in the film or not. The script has not been revealed but we know who will be directing. This is Kate Herronknown for her work on the first season of the Marvel series Loki. The filmmaker will be accompanied by Briony Redman for writing, screenwriter of Doctor Who.

A video game with 200 million copies sold

It’s hard to imagine this adaptation taking shape. The video game developed by Maxis and published by Electronic Arts involves building everything from scratch. The user must compose a character in his image, or not for that matter, before manage his needs, then guide him in his life choices. So there is no scenario to rely on.

The Sims knew a huge triumph over the previous two decades. Released in 2000, the game appealed to a very wide audience ranging from teenagers to people in their 20s, 30s and even 40s. Considered one of the most lucrative franchises in video game history, it has sold more than 200 million copies worldwide.

Margot Robbie is on the rise

For her part, Margot Robbie has had a series of projects in recent years. Along with Barbie, the Hollywood star also appeared in Asteroid City by Wes Anderson and Saltburn during the year 2023. The one who recently announced that she wanted appear less on screen because she was afraid that “the public gets tired of seeing her” will not be showing in any film in 2024.

She will therefore be able to devote herself to this brand new challenge. After playing the famous Mattel doll, the native of Dalby could once again star in a production taken from another fictional universe. The actress will also appear in an Ocean’s Eleven prequel planned for 2025. She will again star alongside Ryan Gosling in this action comedy which will take place during the Monaco Grand Prix in 1962.
