Nicolas Sarkozy is back in bookstores with a new book entitled The time of battles, released August 22. The former President of the Republic who spent his holidays in Greece with Didier Barbelivien came to promote it on the set of news of 20 hours of TF1 this Wednesday. Of course, the husband of Carla Bruni was questioned on current issues and about French political life, particularly in terms of immigration, authority and security. But he also mentioned his time at the Palais de l’Elysée between 2007 and 2012, and of which he keeps many memories that he details in this new book. One of the anecdotes he shares holds particular attention, it concerns the interpreter of someone who told me.
A little over a year after their union, Nicolas Sarkozy and Carla Bruni are invited by the King of Spain Juan Carlos to a state dinner at the Palace of Madrid. It was the April 27, 2009. In The time of battlesthe former leader of the Republicans multiplies the compliments with regard to the one who “gave a worldwide image of French elegance and intelligence” : “I was happy for this so deserved success. How distant and ridiculous are the criticisms of our marriage now” he says, praising the one who was therefore the First Lady.

Nicolas Sarkozy has not forgotten either the long dress with straps that his wife wore that evening and which caused him many worries… Indeed, if Carla Bruni seduced the audience that evening, she mostly suffered. “There was a funny scene when we returned to our place of residence in the armored car which took us at very high speed through the streets of Madrid. Carla had a dress that was painfully constricting her shoulder and made her suffer until she hurt her” reports the former head of state in his book, while insisting that the singer “was in pain” and that she does not “could more”. Giulia’s mother then asked her husband to “urgently unhook the top of her dress”. He complied, but… the case ended up being more complex than they would have imagined!
Nicolas Sarkozy then explains that, “For safety reasons”, “the convoy was traveling at almost a hundred kilometers an hour”. “We were tossed from one corner of the car to the other, it was very uncomfortable“ he reports, before describing the incredible scene that followed… “The two Spanish policemen in the front of the vehicle did not turn around, out of modesty, while I was trying to remove that damn staple! I end up, out of sheer clumsiness, tearing it up“ remembered the former President of the Republic, before indicating that this adventure had finally provoked a laugh imagining that we can discover them in “this pitiful situation”. Fortunately, “nobody, except for the two policemen present in the car, noticed this awkward situation“.
The honor is saved, even if Nicolas Sarkozy meanwhile found himself with a “unhooked bow tie” And “bonus” the button of his shirt collar which had “shattered”…
