Google has confirmed that it will now offer synchronization between Google Keep and Google Tasks, but without eliminating the first in favor of the second.
In recent weeks, growing rumors suggested that Google was going to end its note-taking application, Google Keep. Finally, to put an end to these speculations, the developer ended up speaking out this Thursday in a blog post.
There is ultimately no question of ending Google Keep, at least not immediately. That said, Google indicates that its note-taking application will gradually be supplanted by Google Tasks, its to-do list application:
Over the next year, reminders from Keep will automatically save to Google Tasks. So in addition to accessing reminders through Keep, you will also be able to view, modify and complete them from Google Calendar, Tasks and Assistant. This new possibility will make Google Tasks the best solution for managing your tasks in Workspace. Whether you save something from Keep, Gmail, Calendar, Chat, Docs or Assistant, Google Tasks will make sure it’s up to date and accessible across all the Workspace services you use.
Concretely, Google therefore seems to want to rationalize its various note-taking and task management services around Google Tasks. It must be said that Google Keep could, in certain cases, duplicate the to-do list application. For example, users who made their shopping lists in Google Keep were previously unable to find them in Google Tasks. From now on, this will be the case.
Google Keep won’t disappear anytime soon
For other notes saved with Google Keep, such as memos or regular note taking, without check boxes, it seems that Google will not sync them with Google Tasks and that they will remain confined to Google Keep… at least for the moment .
We still do not know whether this synchronization of Google Keep with Google Tasks portends a disappearance of Google Keep in the medium or long term.
