If you like what we offer Star Wars on the small screen for several years, here’s what should delight you: the man who is largely responsible for it, Dave Filoni, has just been given an even more important position within Lucasfilm.
When it comes to the minds behind the universe Star Wars, most people will (rightly) think first of a certain George Lucas, or of the director JJ Abrams. However, in recent years, it is especially Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni who are shaping this rich universe on the series side. And that’s not likely to change anytime soon. Dave Filoni has indeed just seen himself propelled to the role of chief creative officer from Lucasfilm.
A long-deserved role
For those who do not know the man, well before creating the recent series Ahsokahe began working as a screenwriter and director on Star Wars with the animated series The Clone Wars. He will then work in various positions on the following animated shows (Rebels, Resistance And The Bad Batch), before producing The Mandalorian And The Book of Boba Fett with Jon Favreau. In short, for almost 20 years, it has been impossible to have content Star Wars without Filoni in control and oversight of the entire universe.
Thus, the role of chief creative officer is ultimately just a title that he has already embodied more or less unofficially for years. However, he will now work alongside Carrie Beck (vice president of animation and live action series development at Lucasfilm) and report directly to Kathleen Kennedy.
What future for Star Wars ?
The pair will now be responsible for the direction the universe takes Star Wars as a whole, not just series. Filoni will also be much more involved in each project, from the creation of a new element in the franchise, and more after the fact.
The man will also retain his role as executive vice president of Lucasfilm, as well as his current projects. He will thus be in the making of the film New Republic and executive producer of the series Skeleton Crew. There is no doubt that a season 2 for Ahsoka should soon be announced as well, while all that remains is to hope that characters from these series will now appear in future films in the saga.
