The young Eitan (5) miraculously survived the tragic gondola accident in northern Italy. The child is the only one of the 15 passengers who does not have to pay for the rope break with his life. Seriously injured, he was taken to a hospital in Turin, operated on and then put into an artificial coma.
Eitan is in an artificial coma for two days. Now he is slowly waking up. The child does not yet know that his family is dead. His bereaved relatives now have to try to explain the tragic accident to him.
Relatives receive support
It’s not easy, says child psychologist Philipp Ramming in an interview with Blick TV: “Normally, parents are a kind of safety net in such situations. When the parents are no longer there, other people are needed who are familiar to the child. They now have to teach the child that the parents are dead. “
The bereaved could also fall back on support. The hospitals had trained staff. “They are familiar with such situations and are specifically trained for them. So the relatives are not all alone. ”
Every child reacts differently to the news. It is important, says Ramming: “The child must feel safe in such moments and be embedded in a supportive environment.” However, there is no patent recipe for bringing such sad news to a child.
The video shows you how best to prepare yourself as a relative for such a situation and how the children are most likely to react to such messages.
