This is not a study! – 33 Stradale: Alfa Romeo brings dream sports car

Alfa Romeo knows how to play the keyboard of emotions and uphold the self-image as a sports car brand: Now the Italians have presented an exciting super sports car, a new edition of the legendary Alfa 33 Stradale. This understated piece of automobile is not just a finger exercise: 33 pieces are to be built. There must even be 33, because all of them have already been sold.

The model is not the Alfa Romeo 33, which many of us have seen as a compact car on our roads and those in Bella Italia, but the 33 Stradale, which was conceived in 1967 as a road version of the Tipo 33 racing car, which was successful from the start and was then built 18 times ( more precisely: twelve cars and another six chassis). Like its ancestor, the current version has gullwing doors, but only six cylinders instead of eight – or none at all, because the Alfa 33 Stradale could also be ordered as an electric car. Then with more power than the combustion engine version: The 750 hp of the all-wheel drive vehicle is powered by a 102 kWh battery and is kept under voltage at 800 volts. The range is 450 kilometers according to WLTP. The far more emotional variant is certainly the one with the 2.9-liter biturbo V6, which is based on the engine from Giulia/Stelvio Quadrifoglio, but now has 620 hp instead of 510 and an eight-speed Dual-clutch transmission and an electronically controlled limited-slip differential to the rear wheels. Regardless of the drive, a sprint time of less than three seconds and a top speed of 333 km/h are promised. Brembo brakes with carbon-ceramic discs, operated by wire, ensure deceleration. The dampers work adaptively. The front end has a lift function, with which the front can be raised by five centimetres. As with the historical model, the front and rear hoods of the new Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale can be opened as a whole. This optically theatrical function has a practical benefit: the underlying technology is optimally accessible – just like in a racing car. The entire car is handcrafted at Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera and individually tailored to each customer. Customers, together with the Alfa Romeo development team, were free to choose many technical components and design elements, including air intakes, rims and even the grille. The customization option even affects the chassis number. It contains eight digits that can be freely selected by the owner of the vehicle. Nothing has been revealed about prices so far.
