Naturally high in protein and calcium, yogurts can also contain a lot of hidden fat and sugar. On the supermarket shelves, it is sometimes difficult to navigate and choose the best yogurt for your health. To disentangle the true from the false, the scientific site Borders published an interesting study on vegetable and dairy yogurts commercially launched between 2016 and 2021.

Experts compared the ingredient lists of different plant-based and dairy yogurts, analyzing their ihealthy ingredients (proteins, fibres, calcium, iron, potassium, vitamin D) but also by detecting the presence of nutrients to avoid (saturated fats, sugars). The best yogurt for health would be a vegetable yogurt

According to this study, almond milk yogurts would be those that present the healthiest composition plus the organism: “they have a low level of sugar, sodium and saturated fats but also more fiber”. This is followed by oat milk yogurts, low-fat milk yogurts, and whole milk yogurts.

The review points out, however, that plant-based yogurts “contain much less protein, calcium and potassium than dairy yogurts”. If you choose to buy almond milk yogurts, be careful of their compositions because not all are created equal. In particular, avoid those that are flavored and contain more added sugars.
