A year after the end of This Is Us, Milo Ventimiglia returned to his interpretation of Jack Pearson and the moving inspiration that allowed him to deliver a memorable performance in the series.
Completed in 2022 after six seasons, This Is Us is one of the most moving series of the past ten years. This drama told the story of the Pearson family over several decades, through flashbacks and flashforwards.
We mainly follow two brothers and a sister, Kevin (Justin Hartley), Randall (Sterling K. Brown) (adopted) and Kate (Chrissy Metz), as well as their parents Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and Rebecca (Mandy Moore).
Dan Fogelman’s series has received numerous awards at ceremonies, including for the performances of its cast, at the Emmy Awards, the Screen Actors Guild Awards and the Golden Globes.
And even if he has never won a prize for his interpretation, often praised, Milo Ventimiglia has invested himself body and soul in the skin of Jack Pearson, the father of the family. The actor recently returned with emotion to this role which profoundly changed his life and his career.
Milo Ventimiglia’s moving inspiration for This Is Us
During an interview on the American show The ViewMilo Ventimiglia remembered his parents, especially his father, who was a great source of inspiration for this role:
“My dad is wonderful…my mom and my dad…I get emotional. My mom and dad are great people. My dad and Jack Pearson were from the same era, both born in the 1940s, both Vietnam vets .”
This Is Us: how does it end?
On the verge of tears during his explanations, Milo Ventimiglia continued: “I see in Jack the way my father was with my sisters and I, just wonderful”. The actor even specified that he had a photo of his father and him child in his caravan on the set, with the following inscription on the picture: “Be a good husband. Be a good father”.
Advice that Milo Ventimiglia followed with determination and passion to embody Jack Pearson, a character he describes as “a realistic superhero”but also “a great example of a man, a great example of a husband, a father who had flaws but who could be an inspiration to anyone, man, woman, child, character old or young”.
