This legendary brand is reborn from its ashes with a very original electric car

Lancia has just revealed the first images of the new Ypsilon, its first electric car. The brand, which is part of the Stellantis group, uses the platform of the Peugeot E-208, and should therefore have the same figures as the French city car.

Lancia may be a brand little known to the general public, but its history is remarkable. Founded in 1906, the Italian brand presented many legendary models, before falling a little into oblivion: it only sells one model in Italy, the little Ypsilon… for 12 years.

A situation that seems to belong to the past. Lancia in fact belongs to the Stellantis group (which notably owns Peugeot, Citroën, Fiat, Jeep and Opel), which has decided to “rebirth” the brand starting with a new generation of this Ypsilon. With, of course, a 100% electric version. The first information has just been put online via a press release from the brand.

An original style

Photos that reveal a design that stands out from the rest. This new Ypsilon takes up the codes of the Pu+Ra HPE concept car unveiled in 2023, in a treatment obviously adapted to the series. We therefore find this front end with a three-part light signature, and round and extruded rear lights.

Same for the cabin, where you can only stop at this strange platform on the central console. The latter receives an induction charger and storage space. Let us point out here that the photos illustrate the launch version, in partnership with Cassina (an Italian furniture brand), and therefore offers specific finishes, such as this original blue velvet.

The rest of the dashboard receives a large central screen, as well as a strange little element at its top. Called SALA, it is a priori with extended voice control. However, no additional information has been filtered.

A well-known platform

What we do know, however, is that this Ypsilon uses the E-CMP platform well known at Stellantis, and which is used in particular by the Peugeot E-208. This allows us to have a first idea of the technical characteristics.

This Lancia new age should therefore recover the 52 kWh battery of the small Peugeot, enough to ensure 403 km according to the WLTP cycle. The 115 kW/156 hp engine would also logically be included. As for prices, this small city car is intended to be more luxurious than the 208, and prices should be affected. As an indication, the DS 3 E-Tense, also equipped with this battery/motor duo and with equivalent positioning, starts at 41,700 euros.

The full presentation of this electric Ypsilon will take place on February 14, where we will know more about this original little city car.
