A few days before the start of CES 2024, LG lifts the veil on a robot with a cute design. We already want one.
From January 9 to 12, tech enthusiasts will meet at CES in Las Vegas, a big event where the innovations of tomorrow are revealed and where Numerama will be present. There is always something to eat and drink. In the city’s Convention Center, which comes alive especially at night, everything intersects: strange products that will probably never be released and cuter objects. Like the little robot announced by LG in a press release published on December 27.
The Korean firm took the lead by presenting what it calls an “intelligent agent for the connected home”, boosted by artificial intelligence, several days before the show doors opened. But the product will be on the trip to Las Vegas to materialize LG’s advances in several areas, such as robotics and AI. The little robot, much less frightening than the one designed by Tesla, will obviously be capable of doing many things.
A super connected hub disguised as a cute robot
LG believes that its robot, with mischievous eyes displayed on a screen, can both manage a house and serve as a companion. The design is very friendly, with its little legs that allow it to move freely, and this handle that gives the impression that it is wearing headphones. LG makes no mistake in opting for a cute robot: if it wants to install one in as many homes as possible, it must not be scary. After all, he is likely to interact with children. This was the case in the past with CLOi.
Otherwise, this “intelligent agent for the connected home”, boosted by AI and integrating a host of mature technologies (facial recognition, for example), can be seen as a connected and mobile super hub. It fits perfectly into a home automation ecosystem to control other connected objects in the home. It is even equipped with sensors to record data on living conditions (temperature, humidity, air quality, etc.) and, we imagine, adapt the devices accordingly.
The robot can even serve as a guard to monitor different rooms when you are away, although it would not scare many people. It will, however, send a notification if an unusual event occurs. He will even be able to keep your animals company, provided that they accept him and do not try to attack him (which is not always easy).
LG also promises that the robot will be able to analyze your emotions as soon as you get home, in order to offer you soothing music in the event of a complicated day. It almost feels like we’re in the excellent film Her.
