This mother denounces the lack of inclusive education

To denounce the lack of inclusive education, Vanessa alias MèreDébordée on Twitter, expressed her dismay in a thread on Twitter. She testifies for Aufeminin in order to get things done.

Single mother of a family of 4 children, Vanessa fights alone so that Arthur, aged 4, can finally benefit from an AVSi, auxiliary of individual school life. Aid that has yet been granted to him since March 16. “My 4-year-old son, with an invisible disability, obtained an individual AESH from the MDA of @Angers for 15 hours a week. This decision dates from 03/16/2021. To date, still no AVSi for him ”, she wrote in a thread on Twitter.

Today, she has decided to challenge the government on her situation, which is becoming critical. For lack of AVSi, this 40-year-old mother is forced to work part-time to take care of her son, who has an attention deficit disorder with hyperactivity. “My son goes to school for half a day. His school can’t keep him all the time because it makes him have too long a day. So I took a baby sitter ”, she confides. A sacrifice for this mother. “For him alone, monthly follow-ups cost me almost € 400”, she writes.

“They are not going to ask me to step down on my mental, physical and financial health”

Her son is however entitled to an AVSi, a third party who has predefined hours per child. In fact, to be entitled to individual assistance, it must be requested expressly. The MDPH / MDA then decides on the AVS to set up for children. “I have had an individual AVS since March, but in the meantime my son’s school has closed because there was a covid case. Then he had the extended vacation. When returning from vacation, there was still no AVSi”, She confides. “I called the next day to ask where the AVSi was and the person told me that there was no more budget. It’s still unfortunate that the budget is finished when we are all just in April. ”

But behind this shared system lie enormous problems. “The MDPH / MDA grants a right to an avs and it is the National Education with the mutualized AVSi which decides the number of hours for the children. For example, a child may be entitled to a mutualised AVS for only 45 minutes, which is ridiculous ”, Vanessa laments. “They’re just taking hours away from other kids so they can take care of more kids and cut the numbers.”

In addition, parents in need of an AVS wait months before having one. “While they can issue a formal notice and go to court to be compensated, which the majority of parents do not know”, she emphasizes. “They will not ask me to level my mental, physical and financial health.”

“There are fewer and fewer budgets for inclusion”

However, inclusive education has been a project supported by the government since 2017. “We must stop talking about inclusion as a great cause when nothing is progressing. On the contrary, there are fewer and fewer budgets for inclusion ”, denounces Vanessa. “These people don’t live what we live, I have to be part-time and pay more than what I get”, she is indignant.

Today, Arthur is entitled to an AVSi of 15 hours per week. “The problem is that there is still no one there and I am being told that there will not be any before September. It is my child’s education that will suffer ”, denounces Vanessa.

Since then, this mother has issued a formal notice. “Within 8 days, I must see a lawyer to make an interim relief so that the court rules urgently in order to force the national education to take its responsibilities”, she confides.

Thanks to Vanessa for her testimony, you can find her on her blog.
