One of the most important characters in Baldur’s Gate 3 could perhaps make his comeback in a hypothetical sequel. His actor is even hot for other Dungeons & Dragons projects.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is still on the road to success and nothing is stopping it several months after its release. During the BAFTA 2024, the RPG won five more awards, including Best Game. A triumph that would have turned the heads of more than one publisher, but not Larian Studios. The Belgian structure has been clear: there will be no DLC or sequel. “ We are not going to create an extension, which is what everyone expects of us. We are not going to create Baldur’s Gate 4…we will move forward » said Swen Vincke. A choice which saddens a little one of the actors who would like to continue to develop his character.
This Baldur’s Gate 3 actor wants to come back but…
Neil Newbon, who plays Astarion in Baldur’s Gate 3clearly enjoyed giving voice to his character. “For most characters, once I’ve finished the work, especially when it takes a long time and it did here, I have a habit of picking things apart and saying, ‘Great, is made ! “And I’m happy to move on to the next role. But Astarion still resonates within me and I have the feeling that I am not finished with him.”. A surprise DLC to plan? Even if Neil Newbon somehow has a taste of unfinished business, he is aware that the character’s fate is not in his hands. But he’s totally for reprising his role from Baldur’s Gate 3.
“But you know, it’s not up to me to decide.” he added to IGN. And it’s not up to Larian Studios to decide either since the company wants to move forward. On the other hand, a Baldur’s Gate 4 with Astarion would be entirely possible as the characters are the property of Wizards of the Coast. The publisher would then just have to go find other developers, which will not be an easy task.
“I hope that at some point I will have the opportunity to reprise my role. I would love that, but we will have to wait and see what happens” he concluded. If Larian Studios sticks to its position of stopping everything after Baldur’s Gate 3, Newbon would not say no to an appearance in a Dungeons & Dragons film, just like narrator Amelia Tyler who is ready to jump on any other project inspired by D&D.
Although Baldur’s Gate 3 has ruled out any expansion or sequel, Swen Vincke has not closed the door to collaborations. Recently, the CEO of Larian Studios polled the community to find out if BG3 players would be up for a crossover with the Vampire Survivors phenomenon. And it was “Yes” that won by a large margin.
