This mythical and traumatic science fiction saga has a release date for its 9th film!

Disturbing at will, this mythical SF saga will soon be back in cinemas. Get ready to face the most terrifying monster in pop culture!

“In space, no one will hear you scream”chanted the hook of Ridley Scott’s film Alien, in 1979. 45 years later, the saga returns to its origins with a new feature film by Fede Alvarez (Evil Dead, Don’t Breathe).

Entitled Alien Romulus, this 9th chapter of the xenomorph franchise is being filmed in Hungary with a new cast: Cailee Spaeny (Mare of Easttown), Isabela Merced (Dora and the Lost City), Archie Renaux (Morbius, Shadow and Bone) , Spike Fearn (The Batman, Aftersun), David Jonsson (Industry) and Aileen Wu.

Fede Alvarez and his team will try to dust off a license that has run out of steam with Prometheus and Covenant. These episodes signed Ridley Scott disappointed the fans and the last opus did not meet the expected commercial success.

A RELEASE DATE FOR THE NEW ALIEN

In the wake of the announcement of the postponements of the Avatar sequels and several Marvel films, Disney (owner of 20th Century Studios) communicated the release date of Alien Romulus. The feature film will land in cinemas on August 14, 2024!

On the plot side, this new opus would be unrelated to the previous films. A fan of the iconic franchise himself, Fede Alvarez pitched an idea to Ridley Scott several years ago during a casual chat. This eventually led to the latter calling the director to see if he was still interested. Everything then accelerated.

20th Century Studios therefore decided to produce the film because of the strength of Alvarez’s speech, since the script told “a really good story with a bunch of characters you’ve never seen before”according to Steve Asbell, president of 20th Century Studios.

“In this 9th episode of the hugely popular film series, a group of young people from a distant world come face to face with the most terrifying lifeform in the universe”, reads the synopsis of the upcoming fiction. The slimy xenormorph intends to make our little troop drool!

Note that a series centered on the Alien license is also in production under the direction of Noah Hawley (Legion). These two projects would not be related to the cult character of Ellen Ripley, heroine of the first 4 works of the franchise. In all, the 8 feature films of the Alien saga brought in around $1.5 billion in worldwide revenue.

If you have been traumatized by the drooling and teething of this mythical pop culture monster, you may be shaking, because in the cinema, no one will hear you scream! Alien Romulus hits theaters on August 14, 2024.
