WhatsApp has announced the arrival of “single view” voice messages which cannot be recorded and will be deleted once listened to.
For several years, WhatsApp has allowed you to send images “single view“. Concretely, once the image is opened by the recipient, he will not be able to capture it, save it, or transfer it and it will be deleted from the conversation. Now, the messaging application goes a little further by offering an identical function, to “single view» also for voice messages, as she indicates on her blog:
We are pleased to announce that you can now send voice messages that disappear once read.
WhatsApp cites some examples of use for these messages, such as the possibility of sending bank details by voice or preparing a surprise for a loved one. Once the message has been listened to, it will be deleted, which will prevent, in the first case, a person who has stolen your smartphone from having access to this message or, in the second, the person for whom the surprise is intended, from being know if she borrows your phone.
Secure messages that will only be available for two weeks
WhatsApp also specifies that voice messages are obviously end-to-end encrypted and that they are therefore secure in the same way as text messages sent via the application. Furthermore, single view messages will be indicated by a small icon “1» visible to the right of the audio player in the discussion. Like single-view photos or videos, voice messages will remain accessible for 14 days for the user. After this period, if the message has still not been listened to, it will be automatically deleted.
Meta specifies that the functionality will be deployed to all users “in the coming days“. It is not yet known whether the function will be offered on iOS and Android as well as on the PC, tablet and web versions of WhatsApp.
