The developer of Drastic, a very popular Nintendo DS emulator on Android, announced on its Discord server that the application will become completely free and open source. By his own admission, it was Yuzu’s death following Nintendo’s complaint that pushed him to make this decision. However, the application will soon disappear from the Play Store.
Yesterday, Nintendo shook up gaming news by killing off Yuzu, the best Switch emulator to date. Of course, the latter will not really disappear from radar. Internet users have already republished the emulator on Github and, as the project is open source and extremely popular, we can expect it to be picked up by other developers before long. One of them also took advantage of this development to announce another good news for Nintendo emulation.
Drastic, which we had already mentioned in our list of the best emulators on Android, is undoubtedly the best current option for emulating the Nintendo DS on your smartphone or any other Android device. Although very inexpensive given its quality, you still have to pay the modest sum of €5.99 to obtain it on the Play Store. At least, until now. Indeed, its developer has announced that Drastic will now be completely free.

It was on his Discord server that the news was revealed: “I just made the app free on Google Play”writes Exophase. “I don’t want to keep it on there for very long, but I want to make it clear that I have no financial interest in not making it open source. I plan to release the source code soon.” Although the developer admits to considering this option for some time, Nintendo’s recent decision “just made things more urgent.”

If Drastic becomes free, you will have to hurry to download it from the Play Store. The application will soon leave the store, but should undoubtedly appear on Github and Discord shortly after its removal. Remember that it was in particular the establishment of a paywall on Yuzu which caused its loss.
