this shocking statement angers players

Certainly, Cities Skylines 2 is the center of all attention. After a difficult launch, it is now a statement from the studio that arouses general anger. We’ll explain why.

The release of Cities Skylines 2, the city building simulation game developed by Colossal Order, was met with mixed reactions. Amid player feedback regarding real-time simulation and gameplay, Mariina Hallikainen, co-founder and CEO of Colossal Order, recently made a surprising statement.

Cities Skylines 2: strange communication

In fact, the CEO simply declares to the community: “This game might just not be for you.” And it’s pretty shocking. Since launch, Cities Skylines 2 has encountered various technical and performance issues, including issues with pedestrian and traffic AI. Colossal Order is actively working to fix these issues and plans to launch an official platform for mods in early 2024. According to Hallikainen, the current gaming experience is what the studio was aiming for.

Unofficial mods have already started to address some of the gameplay issues. The studio confirms that the official Cities Skylines 2 editor will be available in early 2024. However, some players have expressed dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the game’s simulation system. In response, Hallikainen admits that the game might not be suitable for some fans . It’s a pretty shocking statement for many to be accused of simply not liking the game, without taking into consideration its condition.

Bugs despite everything

Hallikainen recognizes that “Games are a subjective experience and it’s impossible to please everyone“. She adds that bug fixes are being developed, hoping to resolve some of the major issues players are experiencing.

Even so, Hallikainen admits that the technical performance of Cities Skylines 2 is not yet at the level desired by Colossal Order, and that modding support is not yet available, which is a disappointment for the studio. She also mentions that the delay in the console version is due to these performance issues.

Earlier this week, it was observed that the original Cities Skylines had higher player counts on Steam compared to Cities Skylines 2. Which, admittedly, sounds like a bit of a failure. Especially since here, this sequel aimed to do everything but better compared to the first episode.
