When buying a muscle bike or electric bike, it can be tempting to fall for accessories that can better protect you. This is exactly the vocation of the Magene L508, an intelligent rear light which comes to be placed as a direct competitor to the Garmin Varia, which we presented to you in June 2022.

The idea of the Magene L508 is simple. This accessory has a double utility. On the one hand, he wants to greatly improve your visibility, since the brightness of the light allows you to be spotted at a distance of 1.2 kilometers. Depending on the situation, its behavior differs in order to warn other users in the most optimal way possible.

Detection up to 140 meters

For example, and as explained Hibridos and Electricos, the light activates a flash mode for two seconds as soon as a vehicle suddenly approaches you from behind. The system also switches to “highlight», for three seconds, during a braking phase. And this to make other people behind you understand that you are slowing down.

In addition, the Magene L508 can be paired with various peripherals, which alert you when a car is coming behind you. The compatible systems are varied: the Magene C406 Pro on-board computer, but also those of Garmin, Wahoo or Bryton. Garmin connected watches are also part of this list.

The smart light can detect a vehicle up to a distance of 140 meters, in a speed spectrum oscillating between 10 and 120 km/h. As soon as it spots one, a visual or audible alert is sent to you. The detection angle reaches 40 degrees: the brand ensures that it can spot a vehicle even in a bend.

Waterproof against rain

In terms of autonomy, this accessory has its own battery capable of lasting from 6 to 12 hours depending on the mode used. You should also know that it is IPX7 certified: it is therefore completely waterproof in the event of even intense bad weather.

The Magene L508 is available at a more affordable price – 130 euros – than the Garmin Varia, available at a price of 399.99 euros. A difference which is justified by the fact that the Varia is able to launch video recordings to film your journeys.
