The Tado smart thermostat is evolving to save its users money. The idea is simple, but ingenious: anticipate increases in the cost of electricity for heating beforehand and thus avoid consuming during the peak period.
The majority of French households have taken out an electricity contract at the regulated tariff (TRV) with EDF. They were indeed 76% in June 2019, and surely much more since the electricity price increases. But if you are one of the consumers who still have a market electricity contract, and with variable price operation, this news is for you. And at the same time, we advise you to go immediately to EDF at the regulated rate.
Up to 38% savings on your electricity bill
The German company Tado markets a connected thermostat of the same name. A very interesting update in this period of tension on the price of electricity has just been announced by the company. Called Tado Balance, the new feature promises to reduce the bill of affected customers by 20%. And even 38% compared to homes that do not have a connected thermostat.
To do this, the functionality will allow the thermostat to know, in advance, the electricity prices in the hours to come. Tado will therefore be able to heat the rooms when the price of electricity is at its lowest, then cut off during peaks. Or cool the house in summer, with air conditioning in the case of reversible heat pumps.
Our colleagues from The Verge even announce that Tado will be able to anticipate, by heating the accommodation more than necessary, in order to be able to maintain a comfortable temperature during its extinction, which can last several hours. However, the brand’s press release does not mention this possibility.
Note that this new feature is only intended for owners of compatible heat pumps (more than 500) and the tado° Smart AC Control V3+ thermostat. Hot water tanks will also be supported by this innovation in the future, as will new heating methods.
The advantages of connected thermostats
Even if you are not affected by the variable market tariff and you are on a subscription to the fixed market tariff or even to the regulated tariff, smart and connected thermostats like the Tado can be useful to you. In effect, they save energyand therefore money, by adapting to the habits of the household, but also by taking into account the weather to come as well as the fine adjustment of the temperature of each room.
