Thanks to this software, it is possible to boost the power of the CPU of the phone with the stock firmware. Thus, the user can choose the frequency of use that suits him best. So far, it is not possible to access this kind of setting without going through the root of the smartphone.
Those who like to tweak their PC, especially its BIOS, naturally know what overclocking. This is a function to increase the frequency of the processor to improve its performance. Over time, overclocking tools have improved so that all users can, potentially, get the most out of their PC without risking the health of the components. Smartphones officially do not allow the same hack. Indeed, iOS and Android do not include any setting to manipulate the frequency of the processor. Smartphone manufacturers often offer, instead, a “ gaming mode ” or one ” performance profile “. But it’s not a simple button to overclock the platform: it’s a set of parameters that optimize the stability of the platform when it is requested (especially in game).
CPU overclocking without root comes to smartphones
But real overclocking seems to be happening gradually in smartphones. A first version of this tool should arrive very quickly in a future smartphone: the Realme GT5. A Chinese leader shared two screenshots on Weibo that show an overclocking menu. Thanks to a drop-down menu, it is possible to choose the frequency of each processor core, here a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Thus, you can lower the frequency of the weakest cores and increase that of the most powerful cores. Or vice versa to adopt a more frugal strategy.
Information is important for three reasons. First, it confirms the arrival of a Realme powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Its predecessor, the Realme GT3, only benefits from a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. Then, overclocking is possible here without root of the phone. Even now, root is essential to increase the frequency of a processor. Finally, it’s interesting that Realme has enough confidence in its system to hand over the performance of the SoC to all consumers. It remains to be seen whether the protections against overheating are just as effective.
