In April 2023, the billionaire even decided to modify the algorithm of the social network so that paying subscribers to his Twitter Blue account benefit from better exposure. This means that if a certified person and an average person reply to the same tweet, the certified person will appear in front. In the event that 10 certified accounts respond to the same tweet, all the other responses will be drowned below, and therefore invisible.
Very criticized, this change has the consequence of not putting all Twitter users on an equal footing. The bad news for Elon Musk is that users of the social network understood how it worked, which allowed them to circumvent it.
Gold > Blue > Nothing
How does the new Twitter algorithm work? If the publication of part of its source code could have helped, the reality is that sometimes it is not necessary to ask too many questions with Elon Musk.
Twitter’s recommendation algorithm has a very silly prioritization system. A Gold account appears before a Blue account, which appears before an uncertified account. It’s not more complicated than that, there are no exceptions.
To parasitize the Twitter algorithm, all you have to do is submit to its rules. Since Gold is stronger than Blue, calling a Gold customer service account, which automatically replies to a tweet, gives priority over a Blue account. Twitter’s algorithm thinks that since a Gold account replied to your tweet, your tweet is more important than those with a Blue account.
This “hack”, when it will be known to all, is likely to annoy Elon Musk who could request the deployment of a patch. Still, it has something to laugh about today, since it shows how the algorithm changes requested by the billionaire are improvised and little thought out.
