According to a doctor expert in nutrition, a well-known vegetable has the same virtues as Viagra. A natural and tasty alternative to the little blue pill? Explanations.

Certain foods are known to be aphrodisiacs such as ginger or chocolate. But other foods have the same virtues, such as oysters, asparagus, avocado and even saffron. And recently, a nutrition expert just added a well-known vegetable to this list of aphrodisiac foods. Against all expectations, it is beets! In fact, the doctor Michael Mosley explains in the podcast 15.5, that beets have many benefits, including boosting libido.

The beet is rich in nitrates which are then converted to nitric oxide by the bacteria in our mouth. And this transformation leads to vasodilation, the scientific term to describe widening of blood vessels. This phenomenon therefore makes it possible to reduce blood pressure and therefore promote heart health. But that’s not all. According to the doctor, beets would therefore have the same effects as Viagra. “Viagra works by releasing nitric oxide, causing expansion of blood vessels, mainly around the genitals. This is another good reason to eat beets!”, explains the scientist.
