The investigation continues in Finistère after four members of the same family were found dead in Carantec. A few days before the tragedy, the mother had reported a violent act to the gendarmerie.
A drama against the backdrop of a difficult separation? Sunday, October 30, four lifeless bodies were discovered in the home of a family in the town of Carantec. While the 41-year-old father was found hanged on the ground floor, in the stairwell of the house, his wife and their two daughters, aged 8 and 11, were found dead in their respective beds. “Initial findings made at the scene by investigators and the required forensic pathologist did not reveal any signs of external injury or the use of a weapon on any of the bodies”, said the prosecution. On the part of the investigators, the trail of poisoning would be privileged, at least over two family members, in particular because of signs of vomiting found in the beds of the couple’s daughters.

Known to the gendarmerie services, the mother of the family, Florence, had on October 19 reported to the authorities “a slap” that she had received a few days earlier from her husbandwithout however filing a complaint, said the public prosecutor of Brest, Camille Miansoni. “She considers (then) that it is not appropriate to take legal action on this, but she prefers to point it out“said the prosecutor, relayed by 20 minutesadding that she had assured that there was no “never had physical violence“ during her thirteen years of common life with her spouse. However, she had announced her desire to leave the family home for “to move in with his parents”. It was her mother who reported her concern to the gendarmerie, while she had not heard from her for several days.
Who were the family members?
While the investigators have established the reason for this tragedy, the difficult separation, the inhabitants of this hamlet in Finistère, they have expressed their “incomprehension”with which “the horror”. Especially since the family was well known to the inhabitants, in particular of Morlaix, where the parents had their activities. Gaétan Urien, the father, was employed at the Menez funeral home from 2011 to 2019 before changing jobs and working for another marble factory in the city. Florence, the 38-year-old mother, worked as a sales representative at the Domitys residence, after having run a beauty salon. The two girls, Romane and Izia-Marie, aged 8 and 11, were educated in primary and secondary school in Morlaix.
