Thomas Gottschalk (73) symbolically hands over the baton to the next generation of Saturday evening entertainment. The outgoing “Wetten,dass..?” presenter met colleagues Giovanni Zarrella (45) and Guido Cantz (52) for dinner on Sunday evening. The TV stars’ partners were also there: Gottschalk’s partner Karina Mroß, Zarrella’s wife Jana Ina (46) and Cantz’s wife Kerstin Ricker.

On his Instagram account Thomas Gottschalk posted pictures and a video from the star restaurant “Maximilian Lorenz” in Cologne. According to “Image” The restaurant at Cologne Cathedral was actually closed on Sundays, but opened exclusively for prominent visitors.

“Zarrella can’t just do pizza and pasta, Guido Cantz also understands my fun,” wrote Gottschalk alongside a picture of all six dinner guests. “We’re all ‘Brothers in Arms,'” the TV veteran continued. “Cheers to ‘the Next Generation’.

“Next Generation”: Cantz and Zarrella are already old hands

Strictly speaking, the representatives of the “next generation” are already old television hands. Comedian Guido Cantz moderated “Do You Understand Fun” from 2010 to 2021 – alongside “Wetten, dass…?” one of the last great classics of the public Saturday evening show.

Giovanni Zarrella has already established himself on television. Since his debut as a singer in the band Bro’sis, cast for “Popstars”, he has hosted various programs. Since 2021 he has had his own Saturday evening format with “The Giovanni Zarrella Show” on ZDF. Also in 2021, he presented the outside bet at Gottschalk’s “Wetten, dass…?” comeback.

On November 25, 2023, Thomas Gottschalk will perform “Wetten, dass…?” for the last time, the entertainer communicated this unmistakably. After a long break, the cult show returned for a one-off event in 2021. Due to the strong ratings, another edition followed in 2022.
