Thomas Gottschalk is skeptical of a "Wetten, dass ..?" Comeback. If it does happen, he has very precise ideas.
Thomas Gottschalk (70, "Herbstblond") conducted "Wetten, dass ..?" For a total of 22 years before resigning as the presenter of the TV show in 2011. Successor Markus Lanz (51) tried his luck until 2014, then the show was canceled. Will a comeback ever be possible? Entertainer Gottschalk is skeptical. In an interview with the media magazine "DWDL" he now said that today's times are a very poor framework for a return of "Wetten, dass ..?" would offer.
Influencers instead of world stars?
The show does not work "with excavator drivers who wear face masks – especially not in front of empty stands". Should Gottschalk ever bring the show back, "then I would like us to remember the good old days. That can only work as a retro event."
The 70-year-old provided an example. Instead of a Sophia Loren (86, "houseboat"), he could not simply put an influencer on the couch, "whom all 12-year-olds know, except me and most of the viewers either". It is true that Gottschalk's job is "to present what people want (…) but when I sit next to a low-budget influencer and have to bow to her because she has several million followers, then I'm no longer with it ready". After all, in the course of his career he has sat next to personalities such as Barbra Streisand (78) or the Dalai Lama (85).
