Thor 4: how to interpret the 2nd post-generic scene of Love and Thunder? The director answers us

Like the vast majority of films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, “Thor – Love and Thunder” hides a second bonus scene at the end of its credits. With a clue to what’s next? – SPOILER WARNING!!!

WARNING – The article below contains spoilers, as it revisits one of the twists of “Thor – Love and Thunder” and the content of its first post-credits scene. So please move on if you haven’t seen Taika Waititi’s film yet.

It’s a tradition now rooted in the minds of the vast majority of viewers: you always have to stay until the end of a Marvel Cinematic Universe film. Because each opus hides a second bonus scene at the end of the credits. Sometimes it’s a gag (like in Spider-Man Homecoming or Doctor Strange 2) or a clue to one of the tracks in the sequel or one of the upcoming MCU movies.

At first glance, the second post-credits scene of Thor – Love and Thunder is neither. We find there Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), well and truly dead after the fight against Gorr (Christian Bale). But his bravery allowed him to enter Valhalla, the place where the brave deceased warriors are brought in Norse mythology.

As Sif (Jaimie Alexander) almost learns the hard way, only those who die in battle can access it. This is therefore the case for Jane, but also for Heimdall (Idris Elba), who died after trying to resist Thanos (Josh Brolin) in Avengers Infinity War, and whom she finds. Dressed in a gray jumpsuit, it is he who welcomes her to Valhalla.

Will Jane and Thor meet again?

Everything leads us to believe that this is only a final point, a little more joyful, to the narrative arc of Jane, back in the saga and decked out with the same powers as Thor, despite the cancer that plagues her. gnaws. And that is indeed what one might think. “We knew from the start that people loved the character and seeing Natalie with the hammer”replies Taika Waititi when we ask him about the subject. “He’s a very dynamic and powerful force in the film.”

“We don’t know yet, because it’s too early to tell, if Jane will return. But I like the idea that it feels like the character isn’t gone forever.” A way of not closing all the doors, therefore. But isn’t there something else behind it? A clue to the future of the character played by Chris Hemsworth?

After having separated them, following the refusal of Natalie Portman to re-enlist, Marvel Studios managed to reunite Thor and Jane… to separate them again. Perhaps because the return of the actress was conditioned on the fact that it was only for a film. But who tells us that the heroes will not be brought together again?

Thor 4: who is this actor in the 1st post-credits scene?

Even if he expressed his desire to continue, the question of Chris Hemsworth’s latest opus will inevitably arise again in the future. And Valhalla, where Jane awaits her (as well as Odin, her father), has everything to be the ideal destination, in order to offer her a happy ending. Unless he defies divine prohibitions to seek her out and bring her back to the realm of the living, which is another possibility.

Despite the cardboard “Thor Will Return” which follows this scene, the character is not officially announced in any project, even if that risks moving with the Comic Con and/or the D23, where we can expect announcements.
