A 40-year-old Viennese woman fell from a stand-up paddleboard into the 5-degree Faaker Lake on Saturday afternoon and was only barely kept afloat by another woman until water rescue arrived.

Two Viennese women and one Lower Austrian woman took part in a course for health and fitness trainers at Lake Faaker See on Saturday. At around 1 p.m. the women wanted to use their lunch break to try out stand-up paddleboarding. They just wanted to stay close to the shore, but were carried further out by the current and wind. Suddenly one of the women, a 40-year-old Viennese woman, fell off the SUP board and was no longer able to move or climb onto the SUP due to the cold water. Woman kept her head above water. Fortunately, one of the other two women, the Viennese woman, was able to Keep your head above water until the Faaker See water rescue team arrives. The water rescuers were ultimately able to pull the woman, who was already severely hypothermic, into a boat and bring her to shore. There she received emergency medical care and was taken to the Villach LKH by the rescue team. According to the emergency doctor, she was severely hypothermic, but her life was out of danger. The water rescue team appeals to water sports enthusiasts to only engage in water sports when the water temperatures are low with appropriate equipment, i.e. a wetsuit.
