Three books for the little ones with surprise flaps

The “boo” that is worth gold

Even before the first page, the dimensions of this book suggest a good dose of delicious horror. It’s big, it won’t fit on a library shelf, it’s lined with sharp teeth and the epigraph is by Stephen King. So much for the decor. Inside, creatures with disturbing attributes (a beast “with pouacre feet” or one “whoopee rascal”) lead the reader to seek refuge in houses. These houses are those of Hansel and Gretel, the Three Little Pigs and Sleeping Beauty. Each facade opens to discover a thousand nooks, hiding places to lift, cupboards to explore, cluttered attics. A treasure of inventiveness.

“Ha! A monstrous hide-and-seek”, by Clotilde Perrin (Seuil jeunesse, 24 pages, 23.90 euros). From 3 years old.

When the kiss had (re)came

Kisses by Marta Comin

Farewell to barrier gestures! In this cardboard album for toddlers, everyone is kissing. By lifting flaps, animals and flowers with geometric shapes come together and, “smack”, kiss each other. The chicks touch their beaks, the elephants their trunks… and, at the end, the baby presses his lips to his mom and dad’s cheeks. Perfect for hoping for a slobbery kiss at bedtime.

“Bisous”, by Marta Comin, adapted into French (from Spanish) by Jean Céa (Saltimbanque, 8 pages, 13.90 euros). From birth.

Little smart wildlife to discover

The book lives up to its title. At first glance, in these double pages in elongated format, nothing but trees, rushes or mountains. But a game of superimpositions allows you to discover, shutter after shutter, dozens of hidden animal species, with their babies. Bullfinches, kinglets, a salamander and its larvae, a caiman and its eggs… The opportunity also for parents to broaden their knowledge of wildlife, generally limited to the classic dog-rabbit-wolf repertoire of children’s books. Do you know the fly accentor? Do you know what gerris is? And the coati? Under the flaps, knowledge awaits you.

“Well hidden…babies!” “, of Elo (Sarbacane, 10 pages, 16.90 euros). From 3 years old.
