three-day celebration – Samsone danced to the festival of Lungau folk culture

The Lungau folk culture festival only takes place every six years. On Sunday, around 1,500 participants from over 60 clubs presented the multifaceted customs of Lungau folk culture.

Twelve giant figures from Lungau and neighboring Styria paraded through Mariapfarr. The approximately 3,000 guests even got to see some giant figures from Spain. All in all, there were big celebrations in Mariapfarr for three days. On the first day of the three-day festival in Mariapfarr, the 2,475 citizens not only celebrated the founding of the town in 923. The celebrations also focused on the market survey on Friday. The two mayors of Mauterndorf and Tweng’s local chief, Andreas Kaiser, symbolically presented a colorfully painted community chest. On Saturday, 130 years of voluntary fire brigades were celebrated and the finale on Sunday was the Samsone dance of honour.
