At least three people died and several others were injured in the accident of a regional train which derailed in the Bavarian Alps, in the south of Germany, announced Friday June 3 the local police.
Several carriages of the train making the connection between Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Munich came off the tracks at Burgrain, causing the death of three people and injuring one “undetermined number of other passengers”, Bavarian police said in a statement. The “rescue and evacuation operations continue at a steady pace” at the scene, police added. Help was also sent from neighboring Austria.
Published photos by German media show the wagons of the regional train lying in a wooded area, in a mountainous region. Victims were taken care of on the spot by doctors. The cause of the accident and the exact number of injured are not known at this stage.
