What hardly anyone knew until now: the actress Daniela Hlaváčová, who played Cinderella’s step-sister Dora in “Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella”, was pregnant while filming.

This classic is simply part of Christmas in Germany: “Three hazelnuts for Cinderella”. Hardly any other film is on TV as often as the Czech-German cult fairy tale from 1973.

“Three hazelnuts for Cinderella” remains a cult

Even today, fans make a pilgrimage to Moritzburg Castle near Dresden, where the ball scenes were filmed. Information about the shooting 48 years ago is also in great demand. For example, artificial snow had to be used for some outdoor shots because not enough natural snow fell that winter.

A detail about one of the actresses also causes a smile today. As Daniela Hlaváčová, 76, who embodied Cschenbrödels (Libuše Šafránková, † 68), stepsister Dora in “Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella”, revealed in an interview with the Czech reporter Jana Podskalská, she was in different circumstances during the filming. That’s why she can still remember 1973 so well after all these years. “That was almost as long ago as the Ice Age – 30 years. I know that very well because I was pregnant – my daughter is now 30.”

Daniela Hlaváčová’s daughter is now 48, as the interview was conducted in 2002. She is said to have been born in 1973, so Daniela was heavily pregnant while filming. The audience noticed: but nothing inside, she was always able to hide her stomach under the costumes.
