Three injured – car thrown into the air when overtaking on A2

A 29-year-old from Villach overturned his car on the southern autobahn (A2) near Wernberg on Thursday evening after being rammed by an oncoming car while overtaking.

At around 6:30 p.m., the man from Villach was heading towards Villach near Wernberg when he started to overtake. When he switched to the second lane, the following vehicle of a 54-year-old from Villach crashed into the rear of his car. The 29-year-old’s car was thrown up, crashed into the middle concrete wall and came to rest on the roof across the lane on the lane. The 54-year-old’s car came to a standstill in the first lane. Luckily, following road users were able to brake. With the help of first responders, the 29-year-old was able to get out of the vehicle immediately. The 54-year-old was also able to get out of the car with his 40-year-old passenger. All three people were taken to the LKH Villach with minor injuries. An alcohol test carried out on site was negative for both drivers. Both cars were totaled. During the recovery and clean-up work, the A2 southern autobahn in the direction of Villach was closed to all traffic. In addition to the police, the Velden and Wernberg fire brigades as well as the Villach Red Cross and the road maintenance department were also on duty.
