On January 12, 2019, four people were killed and 66 others injured in a gas explosion in this street of the 9th arrondissement, one of the most serious accidents in the contemporary history of the capital. Three years later, the victims are preparing to finally be compensated and the investigating judges have ordered the case to be closed.

At number six rue de Trévise, in the 9th arrondissement of Paris, it is not very difficult to distinguish passers-by from outside the district. They are the ones who slow down as they approach the white sheets and barricades enveloping the freestone building. We see them raise their heads, let go of timid “Oh yes anyway”, facing the gaping windows on the first floor, widen your eyes before the ravaged facade of the ground floor. Meanwhile, residents of this wealthy corner of the capital are hurrying. They have lived for three years amid the scars of the January 12, 2019 gas explosion, which killed four people, injured 66 and injured more than 400. Reconstruction work – delayed by legal expertise and the health crisis – has still not started. Linda Zaourar, president of the association Vret (Victims and survivors of the explosion in rue de Trévise), struggles to pass near the building without plunging back into the memories of the accident, one of the most serious ever to have occurred in Paris : “The noise, the screams, the blood, the pain, the fear… it’s all still here”.
