Decidedly, the flat country is full of success in terms of series. After Two Summers which told the story of a group of friends reunited 30 years later after the death of one of their own in an accident, CANAL+ has been offering since Monday July 3 to dive into 1985.
Completely new in France, this Belgian series created by Willem Wallyn offers a lesson in directing by tackling a true story from the 80s, while echoing a current reality.
THE BRABANT KILLINGS: FROM REALITY TO FICTION
“Killings of Brabant”: if the name of this business undoubtedly evokes some memories with certain readers, others surely never heard of it. Yet it is this bloody news item that serves as the backdrop for the 8 episodes of 1985. These plunge us into the Brussels of the 1980s, when the country fell into terror by becoming the theater of a series of deadly robberies.
If it takes up the challenge of making us discover or remind us of this period of history, the series does so thanks to a plot which, on paper, is not very original: two friends, Marc and Francky, arrive in the capital to start a career as gendarmes. Yes, but here it is, it is in the portrait of these two protagonists and in a chiseled narration that the success of 1985 is due, since it is through their eyes that we experience the changeover of a country.

And that’s not all, since to this duo is added the character of Vicky (Mona Mina Leon), a law student whose progressive ideals go against the ideas of Marc and Franky, and who therefore goes upset the balance of the two lifelong friends.
