This is the end of a promising rumor: Steven Yeun (Nope, Relentless) will not play the character of Sentry in the future film Thunderbolts. The actor discovered in The Walking Dead is no longer announced in the casting of the future opus of the MCU (scheduled for 2025), officially for *“scheduling reasons”.

Phase 5 of the MCU postponed again?

If his casting was never made public by Marvel Studios, the actor had been attached to the project since last February. He even went so far as to do several costume tests to play the role of Sentry, this extremely powerful mutant superhero.

This announcement raises the question of whether another actor will take over or if the role has simply been eliminated.

As a reminder, the film Thunderbolts will narrate the adventures of a group of supervillains and anti-heroes in their quest for redemption, sent on a mission by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), seen in Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

This group, which recalls Guardians of the Galaxy or the Suicide Squad from DC, is made up of Alexei Shostakov (David Harbour), Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), US Agent (Wyatt Russell), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko) and Ghost (Hanna John-Kamen).

Written by Lee Sung Jin (Relentless) and Eric Pearson (Thor: Ragnarok, Black Widow) and directed by Jack Schreier (Relentless), Thunderbolts had its production interrupted last May due to the screenwriters’ strike in Hollywood. Filming is due to begin in June for a cinema release announced on July 25, 2025.

But the “scheduling reasons” mentioned for the departure of Steven Yeun suggest that the release of the film could also be postponed, while the future of the MCU was recently overhauled with the dismissal of Jonathan Majors.
