Thunderstorms, tornado and rivers of ice in the streets of Milan

After the heat wave, the storm. Severe weather has hit the Milan area, following a week of high temperatures. Heavy hailstorms broke out and engulfed the streets of Seregno, turning them into rivers of ice.

Witnesses also saw a small tornado in Gessate, about twenty kilometers away. In particular, it tore down roofs and trees, causing significant material damage.

No deaths are to be deplored, say the authorities, but more than a hundred people were injured by these events.

The adviser for agriculture of Lombardy, Alessandro Beduschi, will ask the government to declare a state of natural disaster, says the Italian press. “These extreme events are unfortunately becoming more and more frequent, and for those who make a living from agriculture, a few minutes of hail mean serious inconvenience and, in the most serious cases, the loss of crops which represent the work of a whole season”he said.
