On the most important day in the life of his daughter Fee, Tim Lobinger, who was suffering from cancer, was allowed to leave the hospital. Fee said yes to her partner and the proud father led the happy bride down the aisle. It was a dream come true for him.

Former pole vault world champion Tim Lobinger, 49, is fighting cancer again. “I was in the clinic for another five weeks. My sixth chemo plus stem cell transplant. I’ve also had corona three times in the past four months, and in the meantime I was in intensive care. It didn’t look good that I’d make it to Fee’s wedding “, Tim Lobinger told “Bunte”. The 49-year-old has always emphasized staying strong for his kids. Daughter Fee, 27, could now feel his strength.

Fee Lobinger said “yes”.

Fee Lobinger gave her husband Jonas, 29, the yes word. Like most brides, the 27-year-old wanted nothing more than for her father to walk her down the aisle. “For me it was the worst idea that dad couldn’t lead me down the aisle. Dad and I are really incredibly close,” she says in a joint interview and remembers one of the most emotional moments: “I still remember when dad arrived I was doing his makeup. I ran down to see how he was. Then we hugged and just cried. That’s right. Later my brother Tyger came over and we held all three of us in each other’s arms.”

In March, Tim Lobinger was still afraid that he would no longer be able to see his daughter’s wedding. Now, as the father of the bride, he was able to fulfill his important task and hand Fee over to her husband on the most beautiful day of her life. The weakened athlete was supported by his 23-year-old son Tyger. “It was an incredibly beautiful moment. The three of us arm in arm. There was even time to joke,” said Tim Lobinger.

The happiness of the successful day can also be seen in the bridal couple. The groom posted a picture of himself with his loved one on Instagram. The two hold hands and beam at each other happily.

The ex-athlete’s blood levels had surprisingly improved before the wedding. “As if God wanted me to walk my daughter down the aisle,” said the former professional athlete. “On that day I was just the father of the bride, not Tim who was suffering from cancer. That was incredibly good for me.” He helped plan his daughter’s wedding from the hospital: “I stood between chemo stands and seriously ill people and talked to Fee about her wedding dress.”

“These positive emotions are my fuel”

Lobinger can now draw on the wonderful memories of this special day. “The ultimate experience for me was your declarations of love, which you read. It was so touching. So beautiful. Fee’s wedding was one of my goals in life. The fact that I was able to experience that gives me tremendous momentum and energy to keep fighting,” says the 49- year olds. “These positive emotions are my fuel.”

In March 2017, Tim Lobinger was diagnosed with leukemia. Through stem cell therapy, he was able to defeat the cancer at the time and remained cancer-free for almost two years. Now the family man is hoping for further and new therapy options in a few years. “And if my chance is only one percent, I take it. That’s what I’m counting on. I’m a fighter, for me, my family and my friends.” The fact that he was present at his daughter’s wedding is a wonderful milestone.
