To catch up in streaming: 16 nominations for this irresistible comedy which is making waves in England

Available on Disney+ since March, You and Me? (Rye Lane in original version) is a little nugget full of charm that will make you have a good time.

What is it about ?

Dom and Yas, aged around twenty, have just experienced the bitter taste of their first romantic breakup. Over the course of a hectic day in South London, the two will become closer, even to the point of helping each other through conflicting relationships with their respective exes and potentially regaining faith in love…

It’s worth checking out ?

You probably missed this film (just like us) when it arrived on Disney+ last March. It must be said that its French translation – Toi et moi? – announced yet another naive and saccharine romantic comedy. And yet, we are far from it.

Rye Lane is now in the news by being favorite at the British independent film awards (Bifa) where it received 16 nominations, ahead of the highly anticipated Scrapper and Without Ever Knowing Us). While awaiting the results of the ceremony next month, the feature film directed by Raine Allen Miller is getting a deserved spotlight.

Rye Lane takes us to the colorful and lively London district of Brixton. The film also borrows its title from the street and the market which enlivens the area. It is in this setting that the two heroes, played by the solar David Jonsson Fray and Vivian Oparah, will wander and where they will gradually fall in love. It’s impossible not to become attached to these two young adults, a little lost but full of life.

20th Century Studios

You and me ? is a romantic comedy set in the era with a British charm that makes it original: it’s funny and spicy when it needs to be and touching when it’s necessary. The production of Raine Allen Miller, for whom this is the first film, is overflowing with ideas for staging (probably to compensate for the small budget). In the end, you will come away from this viewing with a smile on your face and a slightly lighter heart.

With 98% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, a 7.2/5 on IMDB and a more timid rating of 3/5 on AlloCiné, Toi et moi? is definitely a little nugget to catch up on. And the good news… is that it only lasts 1 hour 22 minutes!
